Expana proposes to launch additional UK Chicken Expana Benchmark Prices

Expana is proposing to launch 3 weekly Expana Benchmark Prices (EBP) for UK frozen chicken cuts and fresh broilers and is collecting feedback from market participants in the chicken markets until Tuesday, 13th August 2024.  

If the industry supports this proposal, Expana suggests launching the weekly assessments on Thursday, 29th August 2024.  
  
The proposed specifications for these assessments would be as below:  

The proposed assessments would reflect the transactable value at 16:00:00 UK time.  

The proposed assessments would complement Expana’s existing UK chicken coverage providing additional insight and granularity into the frozen chicken cut and whole fresh broiler markets.   

Frozen chicken thighs and legs are heavily utilised in both the retail and food service sectors and the proposed assessments would provide a set of reliable benchmarks in what is traditionally an opaque market. The proposed broiler assessment would ensure that Expana has full coverage of the commonly traded broilers weights, allowing Expana subscribers to compare dynamics between the weight of birds.  Please send any questions or comments about this market note to [email protected] by Tuesday, 13th August 2024 and clearly state which market note your comments relate to, and if comments are intended for publication by Expana.
