The United States is a key producer and exporter of dairy products globally, producing 15% of the world’s total dairy. The added EBPs complement Expana’s existing dairy coverage in North America.
The milk protein concentrate industry is estimated at $4 billion globally, with the United States being a top producer and consumer of the commodity. Consumer interest continues to rise around MPCs with focus shifting to high-protein value foods. MPCs provide high-value protein with less lactose than many alternative dairy options, making it a versatile product that can be used to enhance nutrition in products like sports shakes and nutrition bars. MPCs can also be used to stabilize processed cheeses.
Whey permeate is a byproduct of cheese production and a coproduct of high protein whey powders such as whey concentrate and whey protein isolate, with an estimated market value of $839 million in 2024 and estimated growth of 4.0% y-o-y. Containing a high level of mineral content, permeate is primarily used in confectionery and dry dairy blends. Feed-grade whey permeate is produced by ultrafiltration and the removal of proteins and is used domestically and internationally in various feed rations.
